Annual Conference
In partnership with the National Board of Forensic Evaluators, Inc. (NBFE), the Licensed Clinical Counselors of North Carolina (LCCNC) is pleased to share an upcoming forensic mental health certification training opportunity for licensed mental health professionals.
This 8-hour forensic mental health evaluation workshop will be offered on Friday, August 29, 2026, via live Zoom webinar, allowing participants from across the country to attend remotely.
This training introduces participants to foundational concepts in forensic mental health evaluation and provides an overview of the certification pathway for professionals interested in expanding their practice into forensic work. Topics include core principles of forensic assessment, distinctions between clinical and forensic roles, ethical and legal considerations, and applied evaluation skills.
Forensic mental health evaluation is a specialized area of practice that many clinicians are not formally exposed to during graduate training. This workshop is designed to provide an accessible entry point for those interested in developing skills in this area, whether for professional development, expanded practice opportunities, or future certification pursuit.
LCCNC is pleased to support this educational opportunity for licensed mental health professionals seeking to broaden their clinical competencies and explore additional areas of specialization.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will describe the certification and credentialing process for the Certified Forensic Mental Health Evaluator (CFMHE) credential.

Participants will define "forensic mental health evaluation" and describe differences between forensic and clinical evaluations, ethical considerations for forensic evaluation, types of forensic mental health evaluations, and qualifications for administering and interpreting psychological tests.

Participants will summarize subject matter incorporated into the CFMHE written examination, including Parental Alienation Syndrome and child custody cases, assessment and testing principles, psychopathic traits, domestic violence, competency to stand trial, malingering, civil commitment, laws and standards of forensic mental health evaluation, assessment of violence and suicide potential, interviewing techniques, personal injury cases, juvenile assessment, substance abuse evaluation, sexual abuse, expert witness standards, and resources to learn more.

Participants will write a quality forensic evaluation report.

Participants will describe tips and strategies for the oral examination and expert witness testimony.

Participants will identify tests that can be used for forensic applications.
