EVENT:
The workshop is designed to help participants:
1. To provide information for counselors in NC that enables them to understand the mental health needs of the military community.
2. Familiarizing with PTSD diagnosis, moral injury, and treatment options.
3. Learn about Star Behavioral Health as a resource to improve competency working with the military community.
PRESENTER:
Bill Stewart is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and a National Certified Counselor who works in private practice where he treats a variety of issues to include PTSD, anxiety, depression, and gender dysphoria. Bill has completed Star Behavioral Health Tier 2 training with a focus on assisting the mental health needs of the military community. Bill utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectal behavior therapy (DBT). Bill has been an active voice in North Carolina. Bill served as a board member at the NC Counseling Association with responsibility for advocacy from 2022 to 2024. Bill joined the Advocacy Team at LCCNC in 2024 and became the Advocacy Chair in October 2024. Bill has been focused on improving connection to the NC Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors, protecting licensing standards, protecting marginalized communities, and ensuring access to care across North Carolina. Prior to becoming a counselor, Bill spent five years in the US Army where he served as a paratrooper in the 82 nd Airborne Division followed by 23 years in orthopedics at Johnson & Johnson. Bill has remained active in healthcare as a consultant for Excelerant Consulting where he supports small to mid-sized medical device companies with contracting. Bill is also an amateur guitarist and a wannabe rocker in his free time! Bill received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and his Master of Business Administration at Duke University. Bill completed his Master of Arts in Counseling at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Bill is also a board member at We Rock Charlotte, a nonprofit that connects kids through music and provides a safe space for LGBTQ+ members.
