PRESENTER:

Laurel Thornton is a North Carolina native who now leads Whole Brain Solutions (WBS), a private practice in Morgantown, West Virginia, and Apex, North Carolina, specializing in utilizing EMDR Therapy, or Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, to work with stress and trauma-based issues. WBS works with all ages and is proud to work with LGBTQIA+ and neurodiverse populations. She is also the co-founder of the Whole Brain Institute, which focuses on elevating the wisdom within all brains.

Laurel fell in love with neuroscience during her undergraduate studies at Emory University. During her graduate studies at West Virginia University, she was introduced to how the Adaptive Information Processing Model of EMDR is person-centered and supported by neuroscience. This inspired her to shift from a career in research to one focused on the clinical application of neuroscience. Laurel is an advocate and believer that each of us has a unique and powerful processing system within, that is designed to prioritize survival and promote healing. Laurel enjoys supervising, consulting, teaching, and continuing to grow as a clinician. Her clinical work focuses on working with neurodiverse and complex presentations. Laurel married a native West Virginian, and they have two children together. Her family has adopted 1 dog and 2 cats. They love soccer, laughing together, and vacationing in places with water (especially the ocean).
