The workshop is designed to help participants:

1. Examine the Concept of Addiction.

2.  Explore and Describe Substance Use and other Addiction related Disorders.

3. Examine Symptoms, Risk factors, and Health Implications associated with Substance Use and other Addiction related Disorders.

4. Identify Strategies, Techniques, and Resources to consider for clinical practice.

PRESENTER:
 

Dr. Yasmin Gay, CCJP, LCAS, LCMHCS, CRC, MAC, CCTP, CCS

Dr. Gay has over 19 years of experience providing trauma informed, culturally competent clinical and supportive services for individuals with various disabilities, substance use and mental health disorders. Currently, she serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at Wake Forest School of Medicine conducting research, providing clinical supervision, mentoring, and instruction to upcoming clinicians, medical, and health care providers as it relates to working with individuals with trauma related injuries, substance use, mental health and behavioral addictions and other co-occurring impairments. Dr. Gay also serves as the Program Director and Principal Investigator of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist newly developed Hospital Based Violence Intervention Program that provides counseling and therapeutic support services for individual traumatically injured as a result of gun and other forms of interpersonal violence. 

Dr. Gay has immeasurable clinical experience providing administrative, direct care, consultation, and supervision in diverse settings for individuals with various disabilities and impairments, with specifics to best practices in providing trauma informed, culturally competent clinical and supportive services for individuals with substance use and mental health disorders. Dr. Gay is credentialed as a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS), Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (LCMHCS), Master Addiction Counselor (MAC), Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) and a Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional (CCJP).

Dr. Gay is an active servant leader in which she serves on various boards and committees that endorses health and wellness for all, including her current role serving as the Vice Chair and Ethics Chair for the North Carolina Board of Licensed Mental Health Counselors (NCBLCMHC).
